Historical Journal Mizoram is a publication of Mizo History Association (MHA). Mizo History Association was formed on September 23, 1980 in the office chamber of Darchhawna, Officer On-Special Duty, NEHU, Mizoram University Campus, by an august body of a few members of Mizo historians. The founder President was Darchhawna while the founder General Secretary was Lalrimawia, Lecturer and Head of Department of History, Pachhunga University College, Aizawl. The Association was registered with No. SR 1 of 1981 under the Society Registration Act XXI of 1860 on January 23, 1981.

The main objective of the MHA is to promote and encourage a scientific study, systematic writing, analysis and research on the history of the Mizos; to hold conference, seminars and symposium connected with the said history; and to publish the proceedings of the conferences in a journal and other works of the Association.

Publication of a journal is one of the key functions of the MHA. The Association has been organising annual session cum seminar every year since its inception and each of the research papers presented in the seminar are published in the journal entitled ‘Historical Journal Mizoram’ the next year. Researchers from all over India have participated in the Conference and their research papers have been published in the journal. Currently, the journal is in its XIX issue, and it is one of the most prominent academic journals in Mizoram.
